On Palm Sunday a piece of Palm is hung in the byre to bring luck for the coming year. The byre is a thatched one storey house built of stones, and thatched with either straw or bent. Along one wall is a plank. To this are placed the stakes and to these are the cows tied. They are out from the end of May until mid-September.
