  1. One of the stories I often heard from my grandmother was one dealing with the Penal Days. In those days catholics were greatly punished for their religion and there was a reward for the priests that could be captured.
    A band of protestants set out on horseback one day in the Penal Days in search of priests who used to say mass in caves in the mountains around Glencar, Co. Sligo.
    They went up Castlegal mountain and when they were half way up they went astray. They met with a man name MacSharry on the mountain who brought them to the top. The people around seeing them guessed that they had spread a large white cloth on a bush underneath
