Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Bread in olden times 24 - 11 1938.
    Long ago there were no bakers.
    The people made their own bread which was chiefly oaten bread, rye bread, and barley bread.
    Every house had its own hand-mill for grinding the different kinds of bread.
    The hand-mill consisted of two heavy circular stones called querns, one placed on top of the other. Their was a handle on the top stone, also a round hole through which the grain was poured with one hand whilst the stone was turned with the other thereby grinding the grain into flour.
    Before this was done the shell was removed from the grain by rubbing the grain between the hands. All the work was done by women and it was the same all over the world, as I read in
