    The second bid was three pounds and the third bid was a sixpenny loaf.
    Tom took the loaf and gave the cow to the man. Tom then proceeded home.
    On his way home he got hungry and he ate half the loaf. Further on he saw a horse dying of hunger and he put the other half of the loaf into his mouth and went home.
    When he reached home his mother asked him how much he got for the cow. Tom told her the whole story.
    She became very angry and she beat Tom.
    Then she sent Tom with a blanket to pawn it to get food.
    Tom set out to pawn the blanket and on the way it began to rain. Then he went under a bush for shelter. He was not long there until the bush began dropping. Tom thought that the bush was crying with the cold and
