    A large building; part of which still remains stood to the west or back of the granary and was occupied by soldiers under a local yeoman - Captain Soden, who was a notorious priest-hunter.
    At the time of our story the Catholic priest of the district Father MacArynn was on his 'keeping', and Captain Soden and his men were keeping a sharp look out for him.
    On a certain market day in the village Father MacArynn was in hiding in one of the huts on Straid Ard, while Captain Soden and his soldiers were marching up and down the street near the granary.
    The priest took out his breviary and began to read. After a little while he asked the woman of the house to go out and see if there was any commotion in the market place below: she returned saying that she didn't see any. Everything seemed quiet and peaceful.
