Then "Charitable Committees" bought big pots and supplied one to every district.
A man was appointed in every locality to make porridge and people came and got the supplies and ate it publicly.
A man named Pat Higgins was appointed for the Castlegal District. James Clancy for the Cliffoney district and Dan Gallagher of Mullaghmore for that district. It was a common sight to see a big boiler on the public roadway or street and a man in charge, cooking the porridge for the poor people who came and in their turn got the supply allotted to them.
