Gallagher, being a powerfully built man, and an ex-Navy man, was a wonderful swimmer. He refused to be taken on board but swam about for almost half an hour, in the vain hope of rescuing Flynn.
Next morning every person in Killybegs was shocked to hear that Peter Flynn was drowned.
Paddy Gallagher was dead in about five weeks from that tragic night. It is believed that the shock and hardships which he endured were responsible for his death.
The people of Killybegs, if they hear the banshee in the future, will lose their peace of mind.
