  1. A man and wife lived in a little hut in Ballyheigue. They had nothing but an ass. The ass died and they were very lonely after him. One day the man said that he would go to the Tralee fair to buy an ass. He got the money to buy an ass from his wife and went his way. He got lodgings in a house in the outskirts of the town. He went to bed about 9 oclock. He got up about 4 oclock in the morning to see what kind the weather was and he went out without putting on his clothes. The people of the house saw him and locked the door and left him out. He was knocking and knocking at the door but of no avail those inside would not admit him and the worst of the story was that the money which he had to buy the ass was in his trousers pocket. The night was very cold and he went near a tree to shelter himself. He was not long there when a man approached him and
