- "Loch Geal" or the "Bright Lake"
To the left of the main road from Tubbercurry to Dromore West lies a little lake called "Loch Geal" or the "Bright Lake." It is situated in a hollow place among the mountains. It is called "Loch Geal" because there is very fine, bright shining sand at the bottom. One day Pat O'Connor went over to the shore of this lake for sand. He could not find the kind he wanted but he dug down further and further till at last he found the sand getting hotter and steam rising up. He ran away.
