Once there lived a man in Kerry by the name of Gobán Sáor. He was a great mason. His name was to be heard far and near. His fame reached the king of France so he sent for him to build a castle. When he had the castle built the king told him to turn it up side down so he did it. But when he had finished the king would not give him his pay so Gobáin Saor was going to be coming home but the king would not leave him come. He asked for one request and that was to send some body home for an instrument called crooked against crooked and straight against straight. The king sent his son to Kerry but when he arrived at Gobáins house they locked him into a room and would not heave him go home unless Gobáin came home with money.
