the seagulls, the crows, the lark the robin and the linnet. The swans but two eggs. The lark lays from three to four eggs and hatches them for three weeks. The robin is connected with Our Saviour.
When he was dying on the Cross the robin flew up to him and a drop of his blood fell in the bird's breast.
There is a tradition that if any boy will rob a bird's nest his hands will get sore.

Bird-Lore

The bird thats most fancied in our district is the Linnet. Its a beautiful little bird with a red plumage and a charming singer. It is often kept in house-hold for upwards of twenty years for the attraction of its songs.
In Summer it builds its nest on hedges or bushes and lays from four to five eggs of a beautiful green colour.
