    attempted murder. In the interval, while he was on the run, his fellow smith made a very thin collar of steel and put it round his neck. Hanging of course was the usual punishment at that time. When he was brought out for execution at Gunsboro, and everything ready for the hangman's cruel work. When the rope was pulled the hangman said his attempt was a failure. In the meantime an incident occurred in Tralee jail which sealed the fate of the smith. One evening after the incident as the smith was working near Gunsboro the landlords soilders attacked him while he had the collar off, and hung him at Gunsboro.
