  1. In the townland of Knockane in the parish of Listowel a fort is situated which the local people say is very aerie. This fort is on the top of a hill and a great view of the Shannon and neighbouring counties can be seen. Years ago a farmer named Buckley who was owner of the fort, wondered why his cows were short of milk each morning. He went out in the early hours to watch for the culprit but imagine his surprise to see under each cow a rabbit sucking away. At the approach of Buckley the rabbits retreated to the fort and set up a terrible wailing and local people say that these rabbits were
