In olden days candle-making was generally carried on. Long ago they were made at my grandmother's. Whenever they killed goats, cows, or sheep they rendered the fat in a pan. The implements necessary were a mould, a cord, a nail and the fat. They got the mould and fixed a cord exactly through the centre of the mould and tied it firmly at the top of the mould. When the cord was fixed firmly the boiling fat was poured in. The mould was shaped just like a candle and it was made of steel.
