In Shrove marriages most frequently take place locally and especially Shrove Tuesday. There are often ten or twelve marriages on that day. The month of May is considered very unlucky for marriage because they say: - "Marry in May and you'll rue the day". The harvest months are also considered very unlucky because they say: "What is bound in the harvest is ripped in the Spring".
Certain days too are considered very unlucky for marriage, they say: -

Tuesday for wealth,
Wednesday the best day of all,
