  1. There were very few hedge-schools in this district long ago. There was once a hedge-school in an old house in Ballyline, about one hundred yards from my house. A family of Shanahans once lived in this house and it is now owned by my grand-father, Dan O'Brien.
    The master who taught in this school was Mr. O'Callaghan. My grand-father's father went to this school. Irish, English and Arithmetic were taught in it.
