- Long ago the people were very industrious as they made nearly everything they wanted themselves. Before creameries were in use, butter was made in nearly every country house. The cream was put into a barrel, which was made by a cooper, and in twenty minutes or so butter was made. Then the butter was put into a firkin and sent to the nearest town to be sold.
