  1. Chalk Sunday falls every year on the first Sunday in Lent.
    It is so called because all the old maids and bachelors who do not get married in Shrove are chalked on that Sunday.
    It is easy to know them coming out from Mass because they are all chalked by the children and grown-ups too.
