  1. These are the harmful weeds that grow on the land:- Chicken-weed, yellow-root, nettles. Yellow-root is used for poisoning fish in rivers. Chicken-weed is given to chickens. Foxglove or, as it is called locally "fairy thimbles" is a cure for the heart. Dandelion is great for the kidneys. Ryme branches are used for dyeing clothes black. "Rosemary" is very good for the hair. Camomile is great for the hair. The juice of the dock-leaves is good for burns of nettles. Comfrey is good for sprains. Nettles are cut up and given as food to hens. "Slánlus" is used to stop bleeding. "Patricks Hand" is used to spot bleeding also. Hearts-ease is a cure for jaundice. "Priosach buidhe" spoils oats. A weed grows in fields and it is used for dyeing red. Tansy is a cure for worms and headache. Purple Banner is a cure for consumption. The male fern is a cure for clogs. Bog beans are great for rheumatism. Bog sally is a cure for fleas.
