and viewed the scenes which my visions bounded
By Ballinamore and sweet Clover-hill.
I wandered down through that peaceful valley
Down by Lough Derg and Downpatrick's mound
Where the Saits and Sages of former ages
Repose in peace under holy ground.
O'er bog and mountain through stream and fountain
While passing onwards I paused and wept
At Fenagh, Drumreilly and Inch Island
Where our friends, relations and parents sleep.
Then drawing nearer with visions clearer
At Aughawillan new Church I stand
And gazed all round on the changed conditions
Since boyhood years in my native land.
Old friends are scattered, their homes are shattered
