1. Legend of Lough Scurr

   There lived a man in Driney in the early ages whose name was Seán Mc Ranald who was locally known as Seán na gleann. This man had a bastle in Driney and a jail attached to it on Lough Scurr. Seán used this jail for any people in Breffní who would not obey his laws.
   One Sunday morning, he had twenty prisoners in jail, he got permission from the Lord Deputy of Ireland to hang nineteen or release one, or release nineteen and hang one.
   An old lady from north Leitrim decided, she would set a trap for him and have this wicked wretch done away with. She went to the bastle to get employment: she got it and he showed her through the bastle. She asked him to show her through the tunnel as she knew that there was a trap door on it. The lady and he were very near the trap door, and she pushed him on it and he fell in and was drowned. We do not know whether this is true or not.
   Some say a Mc Keon man asked him to challenge him, and Seán went to meet him, and Mr Mc Keon shot him at Letterfine creamery
