  1. There are about two acres sown under potatoes every year. First the ground is ploughed into ridges. Then the manure is strewn on the ridges. Next the clay is put on the manure and the seed is sown. The potatoes are dug with a spade. It is made of a wooden handle and an iron blade fixed on the top. When the potatoes are being dug the neighbours come in and help.
When the potatoes are little while growing they are wed and after that, sprayed. Spray is a mixture of bluestone, washing soda and water.
In Autumn they are dug and the children pick them when they come from school. They are put in heaps and covered with grass and clay. The names given Aran Banners, Stars, Epatures, and various others. The Gerpinks grow best in this locality. In years gone by potatoes were use for starch.
