  1. Long ago the old people lived on boxty bread. They also used oatmeal cakes and griddle cakes.
    The oatmeal cake was made with water and baked on a spit before the fire.
    The querns were used for grinding the oats before it was used.
    The sign of the cross is cut on the top of the cake to let out the air.
    For a feast oatmeal cake and boxty bread were made
    Stampy bread was another variety used which was made of sugar, butter and the finest of flour according to "Dr" Charles Reynolds of Esker.
