  1. There are six forges in my parish. There is a great superstition about Tom Mulvihill's forge of Leitrim which is haunted. A Black and Tan soldier shot a man in the forge in 1921 and ever since this forge is haunted. There is an old ruined forge in Leitrim village. Dominic Noone was the blacksmith in it. He had a very wise dog. One day there was a run-a-way horse in the village and the dog ran out and caught the reins and stopped the horse. There was a very holy man who was a blacksmith in Killarkin. When he died the neighbours brought the dust out of the forge and put it in their stables.

There are two forges in this district. One belongs to Mrs. Doherty and the other belongs to Mr. Gildea of Edenmore. They are situated in the fields. Mr. Doherty's forge is a thatched and it is very big. Long ago the blacksmiths used to make ploughs and harrows and other farm implements.
