  1. Candle Making.
    One hundred years ago the people burned only rush candles which they made themselves. They gathered rushes and peeled three parts round. They rolled them in melted fat. A rush candle one foot long burned for about two hours.
    Basket Making.
    John McDermott from Sheemore was a famous basket maker. He got rods and boiled them. Then he peeled and painted them and he made nice baskets. James McNama from Annaghkeenty made covers for pails with rods. He also made nice baskets.
    Fire Cranes.
    Michael McGreal from Keshcarrigan made from fire cranes and he made bread irons on which the people baked oatcakes.
    Spinning.
    Katy Tighe from Cordery spun all day long until twelve o'clock with the light of the fire. She spun wool and flax.
