- I live in the village of Carranagheey in the parish of Milltown. Some people think it is a strange name for a village, but it is called that name because it is a windy quarter of the country and when the wind blows from that direction it is very cold.I will describe my village the best I can. There are twenty-three houses in my village. There is a very old tree in my village. It is a haw-thorn tree. It is between fifty and sixty feet high, and it is so old that there is ivy growing out of its trunk. The ivy has grown about a feet over the top of the tree. There is also an ancient stone. It is a stone that sprung from the earth. People have dug down to find the end of the stone, but they found that it is sloping down into the earth. After that a priest came to see it. He told the people never to do anything to it.There is a well in the centre of the village. It is said it is the best well around. It is called Tobar na Mona. It is down in a hollow very near the bog with all the lands over it and still the water(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
