There was a King there long ago and he had three daughters.

There was a King there long ago and he had three daughters. One day he called them and said he would give them anything they wanted. The youngest wished to be married to the "white dog of the mountain". They got married and he told her he was a Prince who was changed into a white dog of the mountain by a witch and he was to be a "white dog of the mountain" by day and a prince by night. Every night the prince used to come and by day he used to turn into the white dog again and have to go away to the mountain.

One night a man went rambling to a neighbouring house and when he was coming home it was very late. He hadn't gone very far when he saw a funeral coming towards him. The people that were carrying the coffin were not very strong and he said he would help them. He put his shoulder under it and the minute he did so all the people disappeared and let himself and the coffin on the road alone. He went into a house near by and he brought out a light and opened the coffin and what was inside but a young girl. He carried her into the house and she told him that it was how the good people were carrying her and when the hands of a living man were laid on the coffin they could not carry her any farther. She was very thankful and the two of them got married and they lived happily for ever afterwards.
