Long ago there was a man named Michael Driscoll who was a workman of old Raymonds in Dromin about a mile from Listowel.

    (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)
used be going home he saw a big ball of light, the shape of a barrel not far from his house. He told this to a friend of his. The man he told it to was anxious to see it and he told Driscoll to meet him in the field where the ball of light used be seen on a particular night. They met at about ten o'clock in the field and Driscoll's friend brought a gun with him. They were not long waiting when the ball of fire came on from Raymond's wood and stopped about two hundred yards from them. Driscoll's friend fired two shots at the light but it did not stir. A short time after the man who fired the shots got sick and died. He was dead about a fortnight after and people said he had no right to interfere with the light.
