- When Lord Kitchener was a young boy he lived in Gunsboro about four miles from Listowel. One day a priest was going some place reading Mass and this woman, Lord Kitchener's mother, hated Catholics and priests.
She went out and asked the priest would he read mass for her limekiln and he said he would and that he would not forget it. The following morning when she got up her mouth instead of being where any person's mouth should be was under her ear. She went to the priest and apologised and humbly craved of him to take off the curse. He did so and she did not interfere with priests for the future.
