“In the 1641 rebellion a nephew of Owen Roe by the name of McGuire, was at Carrick on Shannon Castle.”
In the 1641 rebellion a nephew of Owen Roe by the name of McGuire, was at Carrick on Shannon Castle. He was on the side of the English. Sir Charles Coothe had all that land around Jamestown and Carrick on Shannon and Coothall (Cleigne) on the Roscommon side.
The Irish bishops and others on the way to Kilkenny (Confederation I suppose) found Carrick Castle a hindrence and so had to attack it to clear the way. McGuire was defending and got killed.- Bailitheoir
