- There is only one forge in this parish and it belongs to a man named John McLoughlin. It is situated near Killargue crossroad about a mile to the South of Killargue village. The forge is built of stone and roofed with iron and the door is made of strong heavy wood. There is one fire in the forge and the smith, when shooing cart-wheels has another one outside. The bellows which he uses for blowing the fire is made of leather and timber The principal implements the smith uses are: sledges, hammers, rasps and an anvil. The principal work in which the smith is engaged is shoeing horse, shoeing cart wheels and mending other iron implements. The only forge work that is done outside is shoeing cart wheels. Long ago the smiths were looked upon as great men and the king used to invite them to great feasts. It is said that a smith may shoe horses on(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
