- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Candle making: on olden days candles were made of rushes which were stripped of their green outside cover and their inner portion was dipped in grease which was melted in a cám or grisset.
They were then hung up to dry and when dry these 'rush candles' were used for giving light. Another method was to have long stripes of wood dipped in resin which when burning gave off a hissing unsteady light.
