  1. In the townland of Slavenard there lived a man named James Harte who used to make a little basket for holding bill berries called a Gugan Gá. He made it from rushes. It was round at the mouth and a long tail out of the end of it. There was one particular time when this old man used to be very busy this was before bill berry. Bill Berry Sunday falls on the last Sunday of July and the children all go to the mountain to pick bill berries and that is the principal use of the Gugan Gá. They are not in much use since that old man died and he is dead about two years.
