  1. Once upon a time there lived a man named Soople Corrigan down at Derrygonnelly and it is said he had wings on his heart. He was put into prison in with other fellows in Enniskillen. One day they were out in the yard and Soople asked them were they going to make any fight and they were not. So he bid them "good bye." The first wall was twenty feet high and he landed on the top of it, the next wall was thirty feet and he landed on top of it. When he jumped down the horsemen went after him. The houses in Enniskillen were thatched and when Soople got it hard to keep in front he used to light on top of the houses and go down the back of them. He jumped up on one house and he saw the Cylis -- a big river about thirty yards wide -- so he ran down in front of the horsemen to it. They thought they had but when he reached he jumped it. There was a woman washing things on the far side and she nearly fainted when she saw him and he said, "the devil thank me I had a long race to it."
