In our parish there is a holy well named Knockcroagh. It is situated about five miles from Cooloo School. It is a high hill and the well is in the side of it. It is about a twenty minutes walk in from the public road. Tradition tells us that long ago Saint Bernard came there and he was thirsty. He struck his cane against the ground and a well of water sprung up. There is a pilgrimage to Knockcroagh on the twentieth of August. Long ago the people used to walk but now they go in modern fashion. At one time a little boy was blind and was brought to the well by his father who preformed the stations with him and in the early morning he saw stars in the sky. About ten years ago another girl got her eyesight at the well. The people always bring home some of the water.
