- Nearly a hundred years ago there was a school on Aillebrack beach, about fifty yards from the sand lake and a quarter of a mile from the sea. It was as big as Aillebrack National School, but not as wide. It was divided into two parts and had four windows and one door. It was called the Free School.
Scholars from Ciarán-Mor, Dunloughan, Mannin, Bunowen and many other villages attended it.
Patrick Caffrey was the teacher and from that day to this, the place is called "baile Caifre."
None of the building is there now, only small stones, gravel, pieces of slate, etc.
There was another school on the beach also close to the road. Mr Pender was the teacher there, and since then, the adjoining district is called "baile Pendel".- Bailitheoir
