- He lived in newtown near Ballincurry. His real name was Thomas Keane, but was better known amongst his friends as Tomaisin Dam. One Friday evening he prepared a barrel of oats for Roscommon market. His neigbour was also going and said he would bring Tomaisin's oats too. He was to bring it to garth Morris cross in order that the ass would not have a heavy load against the hill. Next morning he took the bag and carried it up through the fields until he reached the cross. He waited until the appointed hour had gone and then fearing that he would be late for the market if he delayed further, he hoisted the bag once more and walked into Roscommon. This is thirteen miles but he was in time for the market.
