The Blessed Virgin was out travelling one wet night and the cold wind was blowing off the cloak which was around herself and Our Saviour who was only an infant then and they were both very wet.
After some time they reached a tiny cabin where a tinker was making tin cans. The Blessed Virgin asked him to make a pin for her but he ordered her away saying he something to do besides making a pin for her.
The Virgin trudged along until she reached a forge where a smith was kindling a fire. She asked him to make a pin for her and he said he would and told her to warm herself by the fire.
When the pin was made the Virgin departed thanking the smith and asking God never to leave him without work.
That is why the smiths are lucky and never tired no matter how hard they whereas the tinker's are poor, weary and travelling all their lives.
