- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Every body and girl can find amusement in their spare time by making toys, and although they were made more frequently in olden times still there are many home-made toys to be seen with the young boys and girls of to-day.When I was young I made dolls from turnips. I got a large turnip and cut the other end into the shape of a head and cut the other end into a body and made hands and feet from sticks and put scutched flax for hair and then dressed her up nicely at which I found great pleasure.I often made pop-guns from elder branches. I got and and elder stick and with a red hot piece of wire I got the huer from from the centre and I put another stick with a bit of wool on the end into thise, and with it I could send water a great distance.I also saw boys making catapults, with which they could kill birds. They got a forked stick called a Jablog and to the two ends they tied a piece of rubber about six inches long and into the rubber they put a stone and when they pulled it they they stone would fly a long distance.Another toy they make is a sling. They tie a strong string to an oblong piece(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
