   Every body and girl can find amusement in their spare time by making toys, and although they were made more frequently in olden times still there are many home-made toys to be seen with the young boys and girls of to-day.

   When I was young I made dolls from turnips. I got a large turnip and cut the other end into the shape of a head and cut the other end into a body and made hands and feet from sticks and put scutched flax for hair and then dressed her up nicely at which I found great pleasure.

   I often made pop-guns from elder branches. I got and and elder stick and with a red hot piece of wire I got the huer from from the centre and I put another stick with a bit of wool on the end into thise, and with it I could send water a great distance.

   I also saw boys making catapults, with which they could kill birds. They got a forked stick called a Jablog and to the two ends they tied a piece of rubber about six inches long and into the rubber they put a stone and when they pulled it they they stone would fly a long distance.

   Another toy they make is a sling. They tie a strong string to an oblong piece
