In the end of the 18th or beginning of the 19th centuries when the tide of suffering by the people was beginning to flag the people of this place erected a roughly built stone church roofed with straw at Kilnalag (Church), this parish of Templetogher then farmed part of the Parish of Clonbuirne, at the beginning of the 19th century the Parish Priest decided to roof Kilnalag Church with slates but the landlord Taofe on whose property it stodd would not allow this with the result that Councellor William McDermot of Springfield who was a Catholic and who was no friend of Taffes, gave the Parish priest the site of the present Church in Williamstown and in addition four acres of land, free of rent for ever
Kilnalag lost its importance after this and is now only an ordinary country village. We next hear of a notorious priest hunter named James Ormsby, Shemus U Gluggernee of Ballyhar Gregg's who had his henchman in this locality a fellow named William Thornton, Shemus and his henchmen often carried out raids seeking destruction of the priest but(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
