- They are held in Williamstown, Ballinlough, Dunmore, Castlrea and Glenmaddy. A fairly large fair used to be held in the country in Granlahane up to about ten years ago in a field. It was not held any more when the own fairs improved. In Castlerea there is a fair-green and every animal that is sold, his owner his owner has to pay threepence. It is the same in the other towns, except Williamstown about the toll but it is in a public square the fairs are held.
The bonhams and pigs are sold on the same day. There is a horse fair in Castlerea monthly. The final arrangement between the buyer and seller is shown by the slapping of each other's hands. The size of the lucks penny depends on the dearness of the animal sold. The halter, which is usually a bad one for the occasion, is given when selling the horse.
The principal fairs are in the months of May and November. There is a great fair in Ballinlough every November's Eve. It is a cattle fair and is attended by young and old.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
