  1. Longford Castle
    The ruins of the old castle of Longford are still to be seen in the parish of Tiernascragh.
    It is said that it was built by the Normans when they came to Ireland in the year 1200.
    They dug a deep pit at the entrance to the castle and put about fourteen feet of water at the bottom of it and they had sharp spikes driven in the sides of the pit.
    They covered the pit with grass and light rods so that no one would take any notice of what was there.
    The soldiers of the castle would then go out through the district to invite the people to a party.
