In olden times churns were worked by thee foot but now-a-days they are worked by thee hand. In Summer cold water is poured into the churn to harden the butter. The buttermilk is used for making cakes and people also drink it when it is fresh. In the town there is never any churning done all the new milk is sent to creameries.
When people are churning in the small churns they twist thee handle round. They keep turning the handle until the butter is made then they lift up the butter with butter pots and make it into one big roll of butter. Then they put salt into it. Sometimes the country people sell butter-milk to the townspeople.
