home from a fair and he heard the sweatest music ever heard by the human ear, inside in the castle. He took courage and he vowed that he not face homewards until he would find out what this music meant. He approached the castle and went inside. There he found a dwarf seated on a slab playing a harp. When the man entered the music ceased but the dwarf sat silently. The man questioned him and asked him what his business there was. The dwarf replied "I am here to protect a crock of gold which is hidden here many years." The man was glad when he heard this, and looking round he saw a golden apple placed on the slab. He tok up the apple and tasted it to see what it tasted like. No sooner did he put it to his lips than he could see the gold and where it was buried. He went home for a pick- hack and when he came back he began to root for the gold. At last he found it and it filled three bags for him. He brought the bags home with him one by one. The gold was supposed to be worth £40,000.
