    The women of this locality knit socks and stockings for themselves for the winter. The most of the people buy the woollen thread in the shop, as there are only a couple of spinning wheels in the parish of Aughrim at present. There were a lot more spinning wheels in the parish in the days gone by.
    My aunt spins the thread herself out of wool. The spinning wheel she uses is a very old one.
