Before the remains would be coffined all the caoiners (as they were called) would cry out loud over the corpse. When they would have it coffined they would leave it on four chairs outside the door. Then all the men would take off their hats and say a prayer. When they would take the coffin off the chairs they would knock them all. It was an old custom also to turn the horse three times around before putting the coffin into the cart.
