I wish here to recall a remarkable incident that happened opposite the Cossroads National School about 90 years ago. It was the wedding of Martin Flaherty, grandfather to the present Flaherty family still living in Kilbannon. There was a procession of 10 or 12 side cars and only two saddled horses. One had a pillion rider and the other had none. The bride's guest threw the challenge to his rival who promptly accepted and threw off the pillion rider regardless of whether she would get hurt or not and won the race.
