Some people believe that if the potato crop is sown before Good Friday, it will be a good crop.

Others believe that if all the animals of the farmyard, great and small, get an extra meal on Christmas Eve, their owner will never see a poor day.
In olden times, the people used to spread the yard manure with their hands, if they happened to be sowing potatoes on the 25th March, in penance for their sins.
