- There are a great number of animals in the farm such as the cow, calf, duck, goose, hen, turkey, horse, ass, sheep and pig.
The cow is a very useful animal because she gives us milk and a calf each year. Long ago when a cow would be after calving the people would tie a red rag on her tail to keep away the fairies. It was also said that if the red rag was not tied to her tail they would not be able to sell her at the fair. The place in which the cow sleeps is called the byre. They generally hang a horse shoe on the back of the door for good luck. The cow that has no horns is called a polly cow.
