   There was a very poor widow in this country long ago. She had only one son and she found it very hard to rear him, but still she did her very best. He grew up a fine young man. He heard of a gentleman looking for a suitable husband for his daughter, he wanted to get a gentleman's son that his place would equal his own. The widow's son told his mother that he would try his luck and to see would he gain that young lady. Dont be foolish said she. He dressed himself up and went this long journey and called into this man's house late at night, and knocked at the door and asked him what did he want and he told her his business, so she bit him welcome and admitted him.
   The old gentleman received him well and told him to stay until morning. Next morning he took him out for a walk. The first they met was a big reek of turf. He asked this young man had his father at home a reek of turf to equal that, and he said yes. My father has
